Sir, – Yesterday morning, I went down to the local polling station with my daughter at 7am, bright eyed and bushy tailed.
This is the same voting station I’ve been voting at for my entire adult life.
I discovered that neither me nor my daughter were on the register, but my son, who is in Cork studying, was.
I have no idea why my daughter and myself are not now eligible to vote; we have both voted in elections and referendums in the past.
Matt Williams: Take a deep breath and see how Sam Prendergast copes with big Fiji test
New Irish citizens: ‘I hear the racist and xenophobic slurs on the streets. Everything is blamed on immigrants’
Jack Reynor: ‘We were in two minds between eloping or going the whole hog but we got married in Wicklow with about 220 people’
‘I could have gone to California. At this rate, I probably would have raised about half a billion dollars’
I would just like to highlight what a shambles the electoral register is in.
If the Government fails to get enough Yes votes, it would have had two more if their local authorities had their act together. – Yours, etc,
JULIAN McCORMICK,
Bray,
Co Wicklow.
Sir, – Why does our Government feel the need to close primary schools on polling day? In most instances there is a perfectly positioned community centre which could easily be prepared for voting. It makes no sense. – Yours, etc,
LAURA O’MARA,
Stillorgan,
Co Dublin.
Sir, – Having cast my vote, can I say I’m happy? Well, yes and no. – Yours, etc,
TOM GILSENAN,
Dublin 9.
Sir, – Liz McManus asked you to stop Michael McDowell from using his column as a platform for the No campaign (Letters, March 7th).
What does she think Una Mullally and Justine McCarthy were doing for the Yes campaign over the last few weeks? – Yours, etc,
MICHAEL CAWLEY,
Delgany,
Co Wicklow.
A chara, – Today as the sealed ballot boxes are opened, upended and the green ballot papers are counted, we will discover how many people strived to vote Yes, and how many endeavoured to vote No. – Is mise,
DERMOT O’ROURKE,
Lucan,
Co Dublin.
Sir, – Is it safe to say that Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Green Party aren’t in a durable relationship? – Yours, etc,
DAVID CURRAN,
Knocknacarra,
Galway.
