Self-identifying as neurodivergent

Opinion polls are not a diagnostic tool

A chara, – Polling company Red C conducted a survey of 1,000 people regarding the medically complex area of neurodivergence (“One in ten identifies as neurodivergent, research shows”, News, March 22nd). Their figure for the prevalence of neurodivergence includes those who self-identify as being neurodivergent purely on the basis of “self-assessment”. Whatever that is supposed to mean.

Surely it is possible to conduct or collate actual research in this area rather than use a polling company to ask random citizens if they themselves feel they are neurodivergent. Or is that too much hard work? – Is mise,
