Sir, – I note from Rahul Bedi’s piece on India’s general election that the world’s largest democracy has 968 million voters and 545 seats in the lower house of parliament (“With 968 million voters and 545 seats, the world’s largest democratic exercise begins in India”, World, April 19th).
There are about 3.5 million voters on our electoral register. Applying to that number the Indian ratio of seats to voters would allow us two TDs in Dáil Éireann.
