Sir, – It would be interesting to hear from Una Mullally what it is about the policies of Sinn Féin that makes her believe that it’s a left-wing party, indeed potentially the leader of a left-wing government (“It’s time for the left to assert itself cohesively”, Opinion & Analysis, June 17th). As far as I can see, they’re simply saying that they’d run the country better, while keeping an eye on some social issues, not unlike Fianna Fáil of old. It’s notable also that her fantasy coalition includes the Social Democrats and Labour alongside Sinn Féin, but with no mention of the indisputably left-wing People Before Profit/Solidarity or the Greens. – Yours, etc,
