Sir, – The indefatigable Joanna Donnelly of Met Éireann informs us that a polar front jet stream currently sitting to the south of Ireland is resulting in our rather chilly June (“It is high summer. So why is it so cold?”, News, June 6th). She also advises that a brief respite is due midweek when a warm airflow from the southwest becomes established (briefly), with temperatures expected to rise to 22 degrees. In a nutshell, the Irish summer will occur either today or tomorrow of this week. – Yours, etc,
