Aer Lingus – a deepening dispute

In search of compromise

The Irish Times - Letters to the Editor.

Sir, – The current dispute between Aer Lingus is a pathetic and damaging display of how not to negotiate and how to alienate the travelling public. Everyone knows that Irish Air Line Pilots’ Association is not really expecting to achieve a pay rise of 23.8 per cent and that Aer Lingus will have to offer more than the 9.25 per cent recommended by the Labour Court. For everyone’s sake let the parties agree on the mid-point of 16.5 per cent today and cancel the work to rule and strike action immediately. Aer Lingus will recover the sum by increasing fares, which they will do anyway to recoup the millions spent on contingency arrangements. – Yours, etc,

GRAHAM WILSON,

Dublin 6.
