Sir, – As a parent, I am shocked at the lack of Government action on the issue of teacher recruitment and retention.
My children attend a Gaelscoil that has struggled to recruit in recent years.
Teachers get paid the same regardless of where they live. So it is understandable that recently qualified teachers would rather work in Offaly, Clare or Sligo than Dublin, Kildare or Wicklow.
Meanwhile, principals are tearing their hair out trying to fill posts.

It all comes back to the affordability of housing.
With a general election expected in autumn, do the parties in Government, or any other parties, have realistic plans to address this issue?
