Sir, – I agree with Johnny Watterson that talking up “war” and violence is not in rugby’s, or indeed any sport’s, best interests (“Hyping up the violent imagery an unhealthy route for rugby to take”, Analysis, July 5th). War is the loss of life, starvation and destruction such as is occurring in Gaza and Ukraine, as well as numerous other countries experiencing civil war. Whenever a sportsperson or a sports coach uses such hyperbole, I suggest that they should be immediately called to account. – Yours, etc,
