Sir, – Dublin Bus, which carries 450,000 people daily, is the workhorse of the Dublin transport system.

The only way to reduce commuting times is to free up the bus routes and to have more people take the bus over the car.

The proposals from Emer Higgins and others in Fine Gael are proposals for the status quo, with increasing travel times for everyone.

As Gustavo Petro, mayor of Bogotá, said, “A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It’s where the rich use public transportation.”– Yours, etc,
