Sir, – The Economic and Social Research Institute has stated that burning solid fuels like coal, peat, and wood is linked to poorer mental health in older people in Ireland.
However, seasoned firewood (less than 20 per cent moisture) is actually proven to be better for public health and also the broader environment. Burning dry firewood in wood-burning stoves, especially eco-design stoves, offers health benefits that include lower blood pressure and improved mental wellbeing by creating a relaxing and comforting atmosphere.
With proper use and equipment, the cosy ambience of a real log fire can be enjoyed without compromising health. – Yours, etc,
