Sir, – Mary O’Toole SC has presented her 700-page report to Minister for Education Norma Foley. This was commissioned last year when the grim discussions were aired in public about abuse at just one school, Blackrock College.
Pat Leahy points out that Cabinet has not got round to discussing it yet, and when it does it may get round to establishing a statutory inquiry (“Major inquiry into sexual abuse in schools to be recommended by scoping report”, News, July 24th). If there’s a general election then that will probably not get discussed.
Considering there are thousands more grim experiences and lives ruined yet to be acknowledged, it is more than cavalier not to be paying attention with urgency. Many have died without recognition or help. – Yours, etc,
