Councillors have backed proposal

Sir, – Alice Leahy (Letters, July 30th) is correct; Dublin city does need more public shower and toilet facilities. She was also right 18 years ago when she issued the same call. Dublin city councillors were right too when we supported that call and provided funding in numerous subsequent city council budgets for such facilities. What we need alongside these new facilities is legislative power to direct officials to deliver on them. Unfortunately, the power and right to implement rests with the executive. This simple fact highlights once again the need for real local government reform. – Yours, etc,

Cllr DERMOT LACEY,

Dublin 4.
