Protecting our country means improving our cyber security

Sir, Sean Keavney (Letters, August 8th) is quite correct to highlight the essential need for our cyber security to be properly funded and equipped.

Apparently, there are certain countries that see Ireland as a weak link in the West’s security chain.

In addition, it is absolutely vital that our Defence Forces are able to patrol and defend our sub-sea cables, many of which link us with North America and Europe.

Also we must be able to police our skies.

So, the defence emphasis must be switched from traditional weapons like guns and tanks to cyber security systems capable of protecting our seas and skies while maintaining our neutrality.

Yes, it will be expensive, but well worth the price to protect our wonderful country. – Yours, etc,
