Cycle paths unfit for purpose

We need world-class infrastructure

The Irish Times - Letters to the Editor.

Sir, – I just cycled down the brand new cycle path on the Alfie Byrne and East Wall Roads in Dublin. It is a testament to everything wrong with Irish active transport planning.

The cycle path is overly complicated and over-engineered, too many compromises have been made so to not inconvenience motorists in any way shape or form, the layout is confusing, it is not disability friendly and, lastly, it is unattractive.

If we are to make active transport, and the enormous associated positive health benefits, accessible to everyone, we need to be building world-class infrastructure. Transport should be a source of health. We need to do better. – Yours, etc,

DR OLA LØKKEN NORDRUM,
