Sir, – Today marks 47 years since Elvis passed away. Although I am a fan, I must admit, to my shame, that I initially felt a sense of relief when I heard the news. At the time, I was on summer vacation in San Francisco, shovelling soil into the foundations of a house. My boss, a devoted Elvis fan and a proud Kerryman, immediately called for a pause in our work as the temperature soared to 33 Celsius. We spent a brief but memorable 10 minutes discussing his songs and movies – an all too short respite! – Yours, etc,
