Sir – Ken Reid’s sensible plea for more sustainable ways to get to school (Letters, August 16th) will, I fear, fall on deaf ears. I recently revisited after many years a secondary school in a rural location on the west coast of Ireland.
Among the changes I noted was an extensive car park. “Are there now so many teachers that such a large car park is needed?” I asked my guide. “No, not at all,” he replied. “It’s for the final-year students.” – Yours, etc,
