A chara, – As Lonan McDowell points out (Letters, August 20th) and contrary to widespread reporting, we will not experience two full moons in August. However, a blue moon is also considered to occur if there are four full moons during a season, in which case the third full moon is considered a blue moon.

Seasons, in this case, are the US seasons, which are based on astrological events, ie summer starts on the summer solstice (June 20th) and finishes on the autumn equinox (September 22nd). – Yours, etc,
