The Harris-Trump debate

Point and counterpoint

The Irish Times - Letters to the Editor.

Sir, – As commentators continue to dissect the outcome of the Harris-Trump debate over the coming weeks, I found it both revealing and entertaining. Ms Harris remained composed and focused on policy, delivering clear, thoughtful points without being drawn into the usual traps. Mr Trump, meanwhile, relied on his familiar mix of aggression and showmanship, no doubt energising his base. While Ms Harris undeniably won on substance – addressing key issues with precision – Mr Trump’s flair for theatrics and his ability to dominate the stage ensured he remained a formidable presence. In a time when politics often feels like a reality show, it was a telling contrast between policy-driven leadership and spectacle. Ultimately, the debate left us with a choice: do we value solid policy and calm under pressure, or do charisma and bravado still carry the day? – Yours, etc,

ENDA CULLEN,

Armagh.
