Sir, – Boris Johnson claims in his new book that US president Joe Biden told him that he wasn’t really Irish at all but of English descent (News, October 4th). Doesn’t this demonstrate how more desirable it is to be of Irish descent than to be the descendant of a nation foolish enough to elect Boris Johnson as its leader? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I have no intention of buying Boris Johnson’s autobiography and instead will rely on whatever snippets are published in the press.

I know that, based on his track record to date, only about half of what he says will be factually correct. The difficulty will be in trying to identify which half. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Remembering Boris Johnson’s casual relationship with the truth, will my local bookshop store his new autobiography on its fiction shelves? – Yours, etc,
