Absence of road markings

Be careful out there

Sir, – I had a bad fall recently on a public thoroughfare in Dublin.

While the road concerned had been tarmacked, and hard cement verges installed to mark out a cycle lane, there were no road markings on the road. The absence of these led to my coming a cropper.

I don’t intend to sue Dublin City Council in respect of the incident and I certainly don’t want compensation from it. It is in enough of a financial predicament without me adding to it. However, I would like to know from the council about its monitoring of adverse incidents like mine and why sufficient warnings, particularly where works are incomplete, are not in place.

While the installation of dedicated cycle lanes overall is to be welcomed, it should not be done in such a way as to expose pedestrians to greater risks. – Yours, etc,
