Sir, – Marie O’Halloran reports that Dáil Éireann last night voted to accept the assisted dying report (“Dáil votes by 76 to 53 to accept assisted dying report after Coalition parties allow free vote”, October 24th). In fact, it did no such thing.
It voted in favour of a motion (76-53) to take note of the report, irrespective of Deputy Cullinane’s quoted interpretation or otherwise.
In a more frivolous example, I might take note of a rainy weather report on a sunny day but not accept it. – Yours, etc,
