Sir, – I note your letter about weekend voting (Letters, October 24th). I wrote to this paper in January and May of this year to highlight the issue of using schools as polling stations and the burden this places on working parents.
The Government are about to close schools for a third time in 2024 as they confirm a general election will take place before the end of the year.
The Government, Opposition parties and Independents should all unite in agreement that this be the last time schools are used as polling stations. There are alternative locations available. Let’s use them.
The next time we will go to the polls will be late 2025 for the presidential election, let’s keep our children in school that day and vote elsewhere. – Yours, etc,
