Sir, – I agree with Vincent Nolan (Letters, November 1st) that commentary should be confined to what’s actually happening on the pitch. As long, though, as it is not clichéd guff. One commentator used to mention “the pillar” (someone who apparently hangs around at rucks) so often that it wouldn’t have surprised me if he eventually got round to mentioning Clery’s Clock. – Yours, etc,
