Rugby commentary

It’s a fine balance

The Irish Times - Letters to the Editor.

Sir, – I would agree with the thrust of Vincent Nolan’s comments on irrelevant chatter from TV rugby commentators (Letters, November 1st). It’s a fine balance, and good commentators understand economy in words when the action speaks for itself. I might add two pet hates. The comment “He’ll be disappointed with that” as a player knocks-on yards from a certain try. And nattering on while the referee is talking. A referee’s live comments should always be given priority. – Yours, etc,

JOHN GRIFFIN,

Kells,

Co Meath.
