Sir, – In the first week of the general election campaign, we have been hit with a barrage of vaguely costed promises by each of the parties
No doubt we are looking at a coalition of some sort after the election and each promise made now will appear in a much watered-down version in a programme for government, following coalition negotiations between the parties.
I would suggest, therefore, that each promise made should be taken with a pinch of salt. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – May I wish all candidates well in the general election campaign. It takes a lot of courage and commitment to put your name forward. I hope that they are all treated to the same respect that we ourselves would like to be afforded. – Yours, etc,
