Sir, – With the elections to the fore, maybe now is the time to look again at polling stations and their use as locations for the future.
The use of school premises during term time impacts on learning and also inconveniences parents who have to take time out to both vote and look after children on their day away from class.
Weekend elections should now be considered, to allow many of the electorate to return home to vote, a necessity when people are working away.
There are a number of other options, and the use of GAA clubs could be considered, given many are based in excellent central locations. Other sports clubs could also be considered.
