Madam, - Last Thursday night my 90-year-old mother was admitted to the A&E department of Beaumont Hospital. There she remained until Friday evening, when she was admitted to a ward.
She spent her time on a trolley out in the middle aisle of A&E. The care she was given was second to none. Her trolley had an inflatable mattress to keep her comfortable. The staff who attended her were efficient and extremely caring, and a consultant came to see her twice. She even had praise for the epicurean delights of the hospital's kitchen.
It seems to be a national pastime to whinge about our hospitals, but Beaumont certainly managed to keep one very fussy old lady happy. - Yours, etc,
DERVLA McALEESE, Asgard Road, Howth, Co Dublin.
