Madam, – James P Mackey (Rite and Reason, August 24th) refers to the absence of any specific preparation in seminaries for the celibate life.
A priest, ordained in the 1930s, once told me that when he was in Maynooth, seminarians were advised that if any woman came to their house in the evening they were to be sure to leave her standing in a draft so that she wouldn’t be inclined to stay. – Yours, etc,
