A chara, – In recent years I have been appalled by some of the pictures I have seen in the press depicting so-called “modern” Irish dancers.
How refreshing to see the wonderful picture on page 11 (Home News, March 14th) of two young Irish dancers dressed in the more traditional style that I remember from my own Irish dancing days. I refer to dresses of actual material (as opposed to something more akin to the cardboard cut-outs) and adorned with Celtic embroidery and in natural colours (as opposed to something better suited to a costume worn by a racehorse jockey, dancing-on-ice contestant or Texan beauty pageant contestant); along with hair and make-up by Mother Nature (as opposed to Clowns-R-Us).Thanks to Joanne Hunt and Alan Betson for highlighting that not everyone has allowed the madness to take over. – Yours, etc,
