Madam, – I note that your correspondent, John McCelland (April 21st), is anxiously awaiting details of the anticipated “christening” of the baby gorilla which arrived recently in Dublin Zoo. May I suggest that, in modern and sophisticated Ireland, it might be expected that the baby’s parents/guardians would, instead, organise a “naming ceremony”. After all, we don’t want his development to be in any way inhibited or stunted by exposure to just one belief system. Later on, of course, he must be sent to an Educate Together school so that he can learn all about other animals and how we must all live together in perfect harmony. – Yours, etc,
