Sir, – Bill Gilmore’s suggestion (June 27th) that the new bridge should be named after crossword compiler Crosaire raises the issue of operational safety at the structure. Let’s hope it will be a case of all across and none down. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – If, as Bill Gilmore suggests (June 27th), the new bridge were to be named the “Crosaire” (in honour of the late Derek Crozier), might the facetious cruciverbalists amongst us be inclined to refer to it colloquially and affectionately as the “One Across”? – Yours, etc,
