EDWARD D. RAFFERTY,
Sir, - On Tuesday, June 11th, I opened my copy of The Irish Times to the Opinion and Analysis page, and following my usual morning routine, proceeded to visually devour the contents. My eyes were immediately drawn to a large photograph of the Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, accompanying an article on the influence of big business on cabinet selections. As I gazed at the full-face portrait a single detail in the photograph immediately stood out. Mr Ahern's nose appeared much longer than usual.
At first I put this phenomenon down to a peculiar camera angle. However, I began to reconsider my analysis of the manifestation of his enlarged proboscis after reading the caption, which quoted Mr Ahern as saying: "There was an enormous amount of lobbying as always... But I did not change much from where I wanted to go." - Yours, etc.,
