A chara, – Last Thursday, artist Paul Funge was buried. Paul was the best teacher I ever had.
I am a draper’s son from Dungarvan. He was a draper’s son from Gorey. In my father’s time, there was an open book. If there was a wedding, a christening or a suicide, and you didn’t have the money to buy the clothes to look good, you came into my father’s shop. You chose whatever outfit was needed for you, your wife, your mother, your grandchildren, etc. There was never a bill sent out.
The first time I met Paul was in Clongowes Wood College, Clane Co Kildare. He was the art teacher. Paul taught me to believe in myself.
Ireland and the world need that education. – Is mise,
