A question of double-dipping

Sir, – This Government came into power promising the electorate that it would eliminate all the inequities in the public service such as double-dipping, yet the Taoiseach has nominated the Department of Finance’s Kevin Cardiff to the European Court of Auditors. He said Mr Cardiff is “technically very-well qualified” for the job.

That may be the case, but based on recent happenings, double counting of €3.6 billion under his watch, this is very doubtful. Aside from his suitability for the position, a point that is being missed by all and sundry, is that Mr Cardiff is being paid an enormous golden handshake, and an annual pension in excess of €120,000 and he will receive a very generous salary and expenses from the European Court of Auditors.

As our paymasters are now the ECB/IMF, surely this is blatant double-dipping? What has changed from the previous administration: same circus, different clowns, wake up Ireland. – Yours, etc,
