Madam, - Christian Morris (February 28th) rightly highlights the depressing reality that nobody seems motivated to change the state of affairs in our country. Where are the great socialists of the past who surely would not have stood idly by in the face of such wanton disregard for the electorate?

That the Government should calmly announce the spending of €100 million on a new jet and in the same breath say there is no money to continue the provision of essential dialysis treatment in Beaumont Hospital is a cynical insult to the people.

If large crowds can be motivated to march in Dublin against a war in Iraq, surely somebody in Dáil Éireann should have the moral fibre to organise a similar march to highlight the loss of democracy in this country. - Yours, etc.,
