Sir, – Regarding the discussion on Dublin airport I know from experience they don’t like anything to be “messy”. In October I travelled with my three-year-old son on a long-haul flight. Three- year-olds are energetic and must travel with their bits and pieces. This meant I was laden down with toys and books at Dublin airport and a luggage trolley was essential.
As we were about to enter the security area I was told I must leave my luggage trolley behind while we went through. This I understand completely. After a long wait (due to understaffing) and having all our bags searched we were through to the other side where there were no luggage trollies waiting.
I asked at a place that apparently helps invalids to get around the airport but was told there were no small luggage trollies “on this side”. I asked why and was told it was “too messy”. Messy for the staff not for the passengers, of course. I noticed that outside a restaurant was a luggage trolley with boxes of beer on it. Luckily staff don’t have to carry anything heavy, unlike passengers.
We finally arrived in Shanghai 14 hours later. When we left the plane we found a small luggage trolley immediately. At Customs check we were ushered to the front as a convenience to passengers with small children.
Thankfully Shanghai airport does not find passengers so “messy”. – Yours, etc,
