A storm over Ireland

Sir, –On Sunday morning Met Éireann broadcast a gale warning for south east gales expected in Leinster, Munster, Connacht and the counties Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan. Is this a misguided example of political correctness or is it the policy of Met Éireann not to mention Ulster? Are we to believe that the other Ulster counties were somehow sheltered from these high winds?

My father was born in Tyrone, raised in Donegal and settled in Dublin and he always proclaimed himself an Ulsterman. I am not sure if he would have been amused or furious at this coyness by our national weather service. Would it not be better if the weather forecast covered the whole of Ireland? – Yours, etc,
