A threat to democracy?

Sir, – Micheál Martin describes the legal case taken by Denis O’Brien against the Dáil’s Committee on Procedure and Privileges as a “threat to democracy”, apparently on the basis that the Dáil itself must make a call as to whether or not a TD abused privilege. Surely the real threats to democracy are the argument that decisions by the Oireachtas should not be subject to examination by the courts to ensure compliance with the law and that considerable wealth is effectively a prerequisite to taking such a case. – Yours, etc,
