A chara, – In his questioning of the minuscule reduction in ministers salaries, I contend that Revd Patrick Burke’s suggestion (March 12th) does nor go far enough. The salaries of politicians as well as senior and public servants benefited greatly from the bench-marking process that sought to align public and private salaries in better times.
Considering the current economic state of the country, the bench-marking process needs to be revisited, urgently. Such a revisit would also go some way to reducing the costs of maintaining the large number of retired TDs and ministers. – Is mise,
