Sir, – It is proposed that works will not start on the Luas link line (Line BXD) until 2015. Since construction will continue for more than a year, there will be trenches and mud reminiscent of the Battle of the Somme in O’Connell Street at the time of the centennial commemoration of the Easter Rising.
Greater respect for the dead and wounded both of the Rising and of the battle would be shown if construction were to begin as soon as the planning process allows, in order that trams may run in O’Connell Street in 2016 as they did in 1916. – Yours, etc,
