Madam, - At long last Dublin City Council's compulsory purchase order for the Carlton Cinema site is being sorted out in the High Court. O'Connell Street is as important as the Champs Elysées in Paris or Unter den Linden in Berlin and that is where our National Theatre should be. During March and April of 2002 no fewer than 4,000 people cared enough about the future of the Abbey Theatre to sign a petition in favour of its move to the Carlton Cinema site. - Yours, etc.,
