Sir, – Demands made by Senator Ivana Bacik for the censorship of pro-life billboards are unsurprising, but are also an abuse of taxpayer-funded privilege and power (Home News, June 28th). The advertising campaign referred to, which were produced by Youth Defence and the Life Institute, are supported by the donations of thousands of ordinary, decent people. It’s deeply ironic that their right to free-speech is now under attack by a socialist who represents the most elitist constituency in the country.

I applaud the senators who opposed the censorship of differing views, and note that Senator Paul Bradford of Fine Gael said he had received no complaints regarding the pro-life billboards. As a matter of fact, we have been inundated with calls of support, to the extent that we are now considering increasing the reach of our campaign. The pro-life message will not be censored. – Yours, etc,
