Sir, - During the recent referendum campaign, immense human problems with our current restrictive law on abortion were exposed by Deirdre de Barra and others. The referendum result clearly shows the level of public empathy with women facing crisis pregnancies.
I am delighted to see that the Labour Party remains committed to its policy in favour of legislation to implement the X case, and that the party also favours a review of our law to consider legalising abortion on other grounds, such as foetal abnormality incompatible with life. I am convinced that political parties which adopt an honest and compassionate approach to the issue will gain support as a result, particularly from women. I hope other politicians and parties will take note. - Yours, etc.,
