Sir, - With reference to the article on hill-walking by Eileen Battersby in your edition of August 28th, I am happy to confirm that walkers, cyclists and other visitors to the Sheep's Head peninsula are assured of a warm welcome by the entire community.

The farmers on the award-winning Sheep's Head Way walking route are happy to see visitors enjoying the beauty of the area. There is, however, resentment towards the Government for not acknowledging the good will of landowners over the withdrawal of funding and lack of discussion on the long-term development of Irish walking routes.

The article was well balanced, but I want to make it clear that walkers are very welcome on Sheeps Head - it's the Leinster House talkers we have problems with. - Yours, etc.,
