Madam, - Cllr Aodhan Ó Riordáin (December 20th) should try moving to a remote and isolated farmhouse on the Western seaboard.
After a year, and a few uninvited guests, he might appreciate the attitude of Dr Ruairi Hanley (December 19th) to the verdict in the case of Pádraig Nally. - Yours, etc,
IDA DUFFY,

Madam, - While there is great public concern about Padraig Nally being acquitted of the charge of manslaughter, there is one obvious factor which is being overlooked: the problem of intimidation.
If householders are being bullied or intimidated by a neighbour, they are consigned to a life of hell and there is very little they can do about it unless they can provide absolute proof to the Garda. The problem is compounded if they are not in a position to move and live elsewhere. It's hard for most of us to imagine what it must be like not to feel free to leave your house for even the most basic necessities, knowing that your movements are being watched and that while you are gone your premises may be entered. People in such a situation have nowhere to turn for help. This problem is not confined to any particular section of the population or part of the country and those who suffer do so in silence, fear and utter frustration. - Yours, etc,
RUTH GILL,

Birr,
Co Offaly.
