Sir, – The road to hell is paved with good intentions. It is also paved with adverbs and adjectives on a firm base of pyrite.
I don’t know what Con Houlihan would make of it all: “A man who will misuse an apostrophe is capable of anything”.
What of an iconic writer such as Frank McNally misquoting a King (An Irishman’s Diary, June 14th)?
I doubt the misquoting of Stephen King would provoke objections in the strongest possible terms. Doubtless a fulsome apology of any significant lapse would suffice.
