Sir, - Facilitating Irish adoption of Chinese babies seems to me to be a small practical way to help with the current problems revealed in Chinese orphanages, while giving great happiness to Irish couples and their new babies.
On inquiry to the Adoption Board, an official - speaking for the Irish Government - told me that the State, while recognising Chinese adoptions to be legal, cannot (will not?) validate these adoptions for Irish citizens on the basis of their own legal advice.
I am reminded of Jesus's words: "Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not." The Irish Government - should remove these obstacles and facilitate the adoption of Chinese babies by Irish couples or stop criticising the Chinese. - Yours, etc.,
