Madam, – I welcome the new adoption law to help couples longing to adopt a child (Home News, October 30th). However, it is a very sad commentary on our society that about 5,000 Irish women go every year to the UK to terminate the lives of their unborn children, while many, many couples have to wait years before they can adopt a child from far away countries at enormous expense.
There are many pro-life agencies such as Cura available to help women with unwanted pregnancies, providing guidance and facilities towards bringing their children to birth; children who could then be adopted by couples who would give them a happy life.
Perhaps the Government could stimulate and provide structures in this matter, which would encourage the solution of adoption rather than abortion for women with crisis pregnancies? – Yours, etc,
