Sir, - I know that most of your income comes from advertising but must you really show your obeisance to those pennies in the till by your vulgar two-page spread on the National newspapers of Ireland advertising awards (The Irish Times, January 20th)?
Why does a paper famous for its occasional acerbity towards pomposity in religious, political and media affairs go belly-up when the apparatchiks of persuasion (who, it now occurs to me, actually run the country) celebrate their collective ego? I read no dissonant note, no tongue-in-cheek remark, no puncturing of the smugness that apparently permeated the occasion.
I did note the quote: "The agencies love these awards dos. We've all got such big egos."
