Madam, - The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland is drawing up a Children's Advertising Code and is seeking submissions from the public. However, as Breda O'Brien writes (Opinion, November 22nd), there is no option to object to children's advertising per se. How can the BCI justify spending so much time, effort and expense (whose?) on drawing up a code for something that shouldn't happen in the first place?
If children's programming depends for its funding on advertising, perhaps most of those programmes should be dropped anyway. A permanent break from "go wan, ya good thing", etc. could be only a good thing for all of us, children and adults alike. - Yours, etc.,
EAMONN KELLY, Richmond Park, Monkstown, Co Dublin.
